Controlling Your Distance

There are many ways to make the ball fly shorter or longer when using the same club. For consistency, you should regulate your distance control by the position of your left arm in the backswing.

Start by hitting full shots with your left arm at 10 o'clock and half shots at about 9 o'clock using your normal swing tempo. Now you can hit a few shots and make sure to take a look at how far the ball goes. At this point you can see there are two yardages for every club in your bag. This is how you build a concrete game built around distance control.

With wedges especially,it is important to swing through the ball with the same tempo.Using the right position of your left arm is crucial for distance and you will be able to hit the ball with more accuracy and achieve the distance your looking for.
