If your trying to break your personal scoring barrier,you must
be able to hit different shots with the same club.The task at this
point is to master your distance control.There is one practice drill
that is highly recommended for improving with your golf swing basics.
First drop nine practice balls,using your 7 or 8 iron,hit three balls softly.
Next hit three more,with a medium backswing.In conclusion,hit three
more balls as hard as you can,without losing your balance.
Use this and you will learn that a 7 iron goes as far as a hard 8 iron.
There are other factors like wind and elevation that would favor one
or the other.In turn,learning how to approach your golf swing basics
with this distance control drill will help you score lower very quickly.
